Shakira Namukisa

Shakira, age 18, is in Senior Three and looking forward to entering Senior Four.

She is a very staunch believer and chapel leader in her school. Shakira has seriously participated in evangelism and God has used her mightily to win many souls not only at school but in different places because her heart always burns with the Gospel.

One Sunday, towards the end of their school term, Ms Sylvia, one of the RTM members, went to her school to share the gospel with the youth. During Sylvia's out-reach there, Shakira gave an inspirational word that torched every one. She concluded with a sad face, adding that she was not to continue with her studies the coming year; as she was seriously praying and looking for school fees.

Ms. Sylvia desired to know why she ended with such a statement. After ministering to the school, she went to talk with Shakira. As she raised her questions, Shakira started shedding tears. She explained that her parents were denying her school fees because she had accepted Jesus as her personal Saviour - this in a staunch Moslem family. Her father told her that this was impossible and unacceptable in his own home and therefore he kicked Shakira out of his family. Their whole clan denied her as one of their members.

This had brought Shakira's education to a stand-still for some years. Shakira prayed and fasted, and God a nswered her with a simple job where she could probably work during holidays and the school fees would be raised.

At the end of this year, Shakira got the shocking news that her family had helped her, and that a good contribution had come in from them. So they chose to give something at least.

What still hurts Shakira so much is that she has no a certificate. She worries so much how about how she is to survive in this competitive world. She is now seriously praying again for $200 to continue with her studies in January, after being encouraged by Sylvia.

You could be her spiritual family and encourage her, and help Shakira to grow into a strong, godly and educated woman who can support herself, and help out others. Would you take Shakira on as your student daughter for a year or two - or three?
