Joanitah Nekesa

Nekesa, Joanitah, aged 14, in Senior One, is also praying for school fees equivalent to $200. She recently started her secondary level this year, 2010, after excelling in her primary leaving examination with flying colours. However, Joanitah was only in school for one term due to school fees problems.

This young teen is the first born in a family of six, and they stay with their mother. The money that helped her begin school first term was a loan which the mother got from the bank, and she was unable to pay this money in time. This led to some of their properties being sold, such as their small shop which the mother had for the family's survival. Part of their land was sold too. This has left them with no way forward.

The mother, because of her desire for her children to have education and not to be illiterate like herself, got another loan from a certain organization with faith that she would pay it back as required. But it became difficult for her to pay off this loan, and ended up selling the remaining portion of land. This left them so very poor, with a lot of challenges and problems.

Joanitah's mother gave up and requested Joanitah to stop school. We found her babysitting her brother, but all of Joanitah's desire is to continue with her studies. She misses school so much! Her major prayer request is get school fees!
