Gorret, age 16, needs $200 by January. She is hoping to enter Senior Three in the coming year, 2011.
Gorret and her family live in the village in one of the districts in the Eastern part of Uganda called Mayuge. Some key factors in Gorret's life, are that her family is living in absolute poverty, and that her father, a drunkard, deserted his family and married another woman. This has interrupted Gorret's education.
She has a wonderful mother, who gave her life to Christ, but she can't do much to help her children in terms of school fees, even though it's her prayer for her children to be able to study. Her mother has helped Gorret to reach the level she has gained as of today, and her other four children, through poultry farming. She began this small project in her grass thatched houses after her drunkard husband left to marry another woman, and left the whole burden of responsibility on her. However, at present, poultry is not a profit earning project in Uganda at all. Many other people have left the rearing of the birds because the poultry feed and medications are so expensive, it has brought the involved farmers into grave losses.Gorret's mother has continued with it but all in vain. Because of this financial problem, Gorret had to repeat Senior Two because of defaulting on her fees.
